The Roots’ Black Thought Speaks On Growing Up + How They Formed

The Roots speak on how they met up and growing experiences for this Vevo interview and Black Thought shares some real talk on his real life high school struggles; being kicked out of Philadelphia’s High School for Creative & Performing Arts, getting caught up in selling drugs while back in his neighborhood school and the intervention from a family-member (“my uncle comes and just snatches me up from on the street”) the he calls a life-saver. And you know Thought is really from a rough neighborhood because to get him away from negative influences, his family packed him off to DETROIT. (I can say that, because I am from Detroit. You cannot make jokes like that.) Pretty deep; recommended viewing and really makes you understand the impetus behind Thought’s own work with trouble youth.
