Kelly Rowland has let her actions speak for themselves throughout her grown and sexy catalog but with her forthcoming album Talk A Good Game, and her most recent exposé “Dirty Laundry,” her words ring loud and clear.

The “Motivation” songstress is allowing this fourth go-round cement her identity as an artist, with the help of singer/songwriter/producer Terius “The-Dream” Nash. When it came to recording the emotionally purging track, that delves into an abusive relationship and her resentment for best friend/ co-Destiny’s Child member Beyoncé, laying down the vocals was no easy task.

“It was very emotional. It took me days to record,” Rowland tells Billboard, admitting it took her a dozen attempts to get it right. “I had to get past being so upset and actually sing the song, not sob through it. I always hope that my music can inspire someone, the same way other artists inspire me. Dream said, ‘I want to write you a record so that people will know exactly who you are, underneath it all.'”

The-Dream, who joins Rowland on the “Lights Out” tour this summer, says this is the opportune time for her to deal with her emotions musically. “What unfolds on TV or on the Internet, it’s never really that. You think it is but it’s just not,” he says. “When you have a stage like Kelly has, you should talk about that part of your life. I think Kelly’s way deeper than that.”
