Organizers for annual hip-hop festival, Rock The Bells, announced this week that the upcoming, 2013 event would feature hologram performances from late rappers Eazy-E and the Ol’ Dirty Bastard. While Eazy’s camp is in support of the late rapper’s appearance, ODB’s widow is not.
According to Rolling Out, Icelene Jones opposes the upcoming appearance of her late husband at the 2013 Rock The Bells Festival … in hologram form, and has reportedly filed a cease-and-desist order to prevent it from taking place.
“I am disappointed that Rock the Bells would not contact me directly about the use of my husband’s image. I am looking forward to talking to Wu-Tang about this matter and coming up with a positive solution, in order to bring my husband’s image to the stage once again,” Jones said in a statement. “My son, Young Dirty Bastard, [also known as] Boy Jones, has always performed at Rock the Bells and looks forward to working with his Uncle RZA every year.”
Chang Weisberg, head of Rock the Bells’ parent company Guerilla Union, told HipHopDX this week that he had been in touch with the appropriate parties of the late rapper, including ODB’s mom, Cherry Jones.
“I keep in touch with Cherry all the time,” Chang said. “She’s got a legacy that she’s trying to keep together for her grand kids and her relatives. So, whatever it is that we can do to help Cherry in her mission, we’re gonna do.”
The Ol’ Dirty Bastard passed away in 2004 at the age of 35.
