There’s been a few changes in the rotation at Def Jam this year already: former President Joie Manda left for Interscope back in March, Sha Money XL joined Epic Records in May, and Shawn “Pecas” Costner was promoted to Executive Vice President of Def Jam later that same month. Now, the famed label has named Don Cannon as Vice President of A&R. Cannon will be based in Atlanta and report directly to Karen Kwak, Head of A&R at Island Def Jam Music Group, while working closely with Steve Bartels, President & COO of Island Def Jam Music Group.
Says Cannon of his new position:
A music person can only dream about being at Def Jam, the most important hip-hop destination in the world. I feel I have a cutting edge vision for where the culture and hip-hop are heading and I’m excited to be joining the team. I’m already working 24/7 to drive the innovation of music forward and I’m confident we’ll land some big successes in the very near future.
